What is real time chat?
You can access real time chat as many times as is helpful to you. Usually a session lasts about 45 minutes. There are a few steps in talking to a counsellor online:
1. Sign-up to the service with an email and password. This is completely confidential. We will not disclose your details or ever pass on your email address. If you are concerned at all you could sign-up using a free account such as Hotmail.
2. Read and accept the terms and conditions of the service.
(Online counselling is not the best service for people in crisis. We recommend those in crisis contact telephone support 1800 858 858).
2. Respond to a few questions about your situation.
This will assist the counsellor to best meet your needs. The answers that you give are confidential.
3. Start real time chat.
The conversation will appear on the screen like instant messaging.
4. When the session is finished, if you want to delete any traces of the session from your computer, check our security policy for instructions.
