Free and confidential gambling support is available for people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities, loved ones and the community.
South Australia has gambling services that recognise different languages and cultures for people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities.
Financial counselling is a free, safe and confidential service to help you manage your finances.
Qualified financial counsellors listen without judgement and help you deal with debt, credit issues and develop a plan to get your finances back on track — and relieve the stress of money problems.
Financial counselling is available to people trying to change their gambling as well as couples, family and friends. Financial counsellors can also help with accessing other support services.
A financial counsellor can:
- assess your finances, explain your options and work with you to develop a plan
- deal with credit providers to help you with loan, credit card or mortgage debt
- negotiate with your utility providers (electricity, gas, phone) and other providers to develop achievable payment plans
- help you work out a budget
- refer you to other specialist support services you might need, including counselling, legal services, and emergency and fine relief
- identify and help you access concessions, for example cost of living concession, entitlements like no-interest loans, and complaint and resolution options like ombudsmen and internal dispute resolutions.
One of the strategies you can use to make a change is barring yourself from gambling.
How do you do this?
You can ask a gambling provider (the venue) or Consumer and Business Services (CBS) to bar you from entering an area where gambling takes place. This can include hotels and clubs with gaming machines, TAB outlets, and the Adelaide Casino. You can also ask to be barred from online gambling.
You can ask to be barred from multiple venues.
BetStop – the National Self-Exclusion Register™
BetStop – the National Self-Exclusion Register is a free national service to exclude yourself from all Australian-licensed online and phone wagering services in a single step. Find out more about BetStop - the National Self-Exclusion Register or contact Gambling Help Services if you’d like our assistance to register.

Help your family member or friend
Are you a family member or friend of someone at risk of harming themselves or someone else due to gambling? You can request a third-party barring order to stop them entering gambling venues.
An order is legally binding and can stop people from:
- gambling at the casino
- entering areas in hotels and clubs with gaming machines
- betting on the races or sport (online or at TAB outlets)
- buying commercial lottery tickets.
For more information, visit Consumer and Business Services or call 131 882 and select option 6.
The Gambling Helpline is a free, confidential phone service available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call 1800 858 858.
The helpline is staffed by people who understand the challenges of changing gambling behaviour. Phone counsellors are ready to help and support you. They won’t judge you, criticise you or make you feel bad about yourself.
