It’s ok to ask for help too!
Support is available for anyone affected by a gambling issue, not just the gambler themselves.
Getting support could simply involve telling a friend or other family member about your concerns. There may already be people in your life who could listen and offer a helping hand.
As well as family and friends, there are others in the community who can offer support, such as a doctor, member of your church or health care group.
Many people feel a great sense of relief when they seek support, so why not speak to someone today!
Family and friends can access free confidential and professional counselling across Australia. You could start by chatting online to one of our counsellors, they can talk through any concerns you have, as well as referring you to local services.
It may help to know that a lot of Gambling Counselling services in Australia (including ours) are free, so accessing these services won’t put any additional strain on your finances!
If the person who gambles is ready to get assistance you can help them get a referral to a gambling counsellor, and you may even attend with them.
Alternatively you can start off yourself, and then offer them the opportunity to join you.
If you are experiencing financial concerns you can also access free financial counselling on 1800 007 007 Monday – Friday 9.30am-4.30pm
Gambling counsellors can also provide referrals to other services.
Some people find that they may need support from other professionals. There are services available to offer assistance with:
- Depression and anxiety
- Stress management
- Alcohol or substance use
